On the occasion of VIU participation in the Biennale session, Prof. Zoeller led a visit and a seminar to be part of VIU program of co-curricular activities. The visit included, as a first segment, a tour of the German Pavilion, which featured a multi-media three-part memorial to the work of the late German theater and film maker, actor, writer and artist, Christoph Schlingensief (1960-2010), who was tragically prevented from realizing the German contribution to the Biennale, with which he had been charged.
Schlingensief's work and its curatorial recollection in the German Pavilion drew on the German radical theater tradition under the twin influence of Richard Wagner and Bertold Brecht and was influenced by contemporary performance art, especially the Fluxus movement and the work of the German sculptor and performance artist, Joseph Beuys.
The concept and contents of the German Pavilion were presented by its press director, Christine Kaiser, and her introduction gave an opportunity to discuss the controversial Schlingensief installation of the German Pavilion afterward.
The visit to the German Pavilion was a class activity for Prof. Zoeller's students, on the relation between philosophy and religion and on the tragic world view in Attic drama and German opera, respectively.
All VIU students and faculty were welcome to join in the visit of the German Pavilion and the discussion afterward.

Schubert guided VIU students through the Italian Pavilion in the early afternoon as the final part of a very intense and rich day program.
