Destination Biennale di Venezia - Universities meet in Architecture

Venice International University is taking part in this new initiative offered by the Biennale di Venezia in the context of the International Architecture Exhibition.
For the 12th International Architecture Exhibition, People meet in architecture (August 29th - November 21st 2010), directed by Kazuyo Sejima, the Biennale di Venezia intends to broaden the platform it offers Universities and learning Institutions, by providing a special opportunity for them to programme and organize a visit to the Exhibition, that can constitute an important educational experience.

On the occasion of VIU participation in the program "Universities meet in Architecture", VIU took the chance to organized inside the Italian Pavilion at the Giardini a VIULecture focused on Fall semester main topic, that is to say  "Cultural Heritage". The lecture entitled "Why the health of the Venice Lagoon has implications for the City's Heritage" was open to VIU students and faculty as well as to the public. The guest speaker, Jane da Mosto, talked about the connections between processes and conditions in the Venice Lagoon and their effects on the city, past present and future. Jane da Mosto is an Environmental scientist (MA, Oxford University, MSc Imperial College) and international consultant on sustainable development in the broadest sense while the discussant was Stefania Tonin, a  IUAV researcher in Economics of Sustainable Development. The introduction to the lecture was made by prof. Elizabeth Carroll.
