Accommodation

To confirm accommodation on campus:
As the residential facilities are managed by a services company independent from VIU, students will receive by email from San Servolo Servizi a contract to confirm the reservation and must return the completed form by fax, together with the proof of payment no later than 7 days after receiving the contract by email.

The cost of accommodation in 3-bed and 4-bed rooms for the duration of the semester is 1305 Euro (prices valid from Spring 2016).
This must be paid in full to confirm the reservation and is non-refundable. Students from Boston College and Duke university must return the contract, but are not required to send confirmation of payment as payment is made directly by their universities.
Men and women students will live together in the residential halls, although multiple rooms will be divided by gender. i.e. there will be men and women students living on the same corridor. Each room has a private bathroom.
Nationalities will be mixed as much as possible, depending on the number of students from each member university.

• Rooms are cleaned once a week;
• Linens, towels and blankets are provided; linens and towels are changed once a week;
• There are coin-operated laundry facilities (washing and drying). Each load costs 3 Euro;
• No outside guests are allowed in the residential halls;
• No pets are allowed in the residential halls;
• Cooking is strictly prohibited in the bedrooms of the residential halls;
• Smoking is strictly prohibited in the residential halls;
• Noise levels should be kept to a minimum, especially after 10 pm.

If you are staying on the Island you will receive a magnetic key to your room when you arrive.
A deposit (200 Euro cash and 24 Euro cash to be paid for the local accommodation tax set by the Municipality of Venice) will be required before entering your room and will be refunded on departure unless there has been any damage to the room.

For any problems in your room (light bulbs, heating, A.C, etc) please inform the Reception.
The Reception is open from 8.30 am to 8 pm
There is a night porter on duty from 8 pm to 8.30 am.

There are apartments available for a total of 20 places for VIU students in the city center. Places will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis.

VIU organizes the rental of several apartments in Venice through real estate agencies.
The apartments are for 4 students in two twin rooms.
The cost of the accommodation in twin rooms for the duration of the semester is 1625 Euro per student (prices valid since Spring 2014). The cost also includes the agency commission and VAT whereas utilities and cleaning are not included. You can ask the real estate agency to arrange for weekly or monthly cleaning at your expense; final cleaning is compulsory. You will pay the utilities at the end of your stay.

Nationalities will be mixed as much as possible, depending on the number of students from each member university.

To confirm accommodation in apartments:
Students will receive an email from the SHSS office with the bank details for the payment of the apartment. As a confirmation for your reservation, you must send back the proof of payment no later than 10 days after receiving the email.

This must be paid in full to confirm the reservation and is non-refundable. Students from Duke university must inform the university office of their choice as payment is made directly by their university (utilities and cleaning are not included). The contract for the apartment will be signed by students at their check-in:

• The apartments are supplied with a fully equipped kitchen;
• A washing machine will be available in every apartment;
• Linens, towels and blankets are provided;
• No pets are allowed in the apartments;
• Smoking is strictly prohibited in the apartments, including your own room;
• Noise levels should be kept to a minimum, especially after 10 pm out of respect for your neighbours

If you are staying in an apartment you will receive your key when you check in.
A deposit equivalent to one month's rent (480 Euro) will be required when you check in and will be refunded on departure unless there has been any damage to the apartment.
