F0818 Venice and the Ottoman Orient
The course will inspect the main issues concerning Early-modern Mediterranean history by comparing a selection of Ottoman and Venetian documents, provided in their English translation.
Therefore, the topics traditionally mentioned by historiography - such as war, peace, trade, international diplomacy, piracy and professional migration - will be scrutinized by a strict comparative methodology. This procedure will allow the students to focus on two different perspectives on the same phenomenas, highlighting the rescpective differences and similarities.
