F0917 Relationship between Painting and Poetry in Europe, Japan and China
This course will present a comparative analysis of the relationship between painting and poetry in Europe, China and Japan. It focuses on the comparison of the interface between text and imagery in alphabetical and ideographical culture?.
The course is especially intended for students with no knowledge of Japanese or Chinese language. Details of the syllabus will be elaborated contingent on the class size and participants’ background.
Lectures presenting different patterns of relationship between painting and poetry will alternate with discussions and presentations where the students will be required to present examples of a relationship between text and imagery they can see in Venice or in their own culture.
