Course for Sustainability: Strategies, Methodologies and Policies The aim of the Course, that develops over one year and takes place both in Astana (Kazakhstan) and in Venice (Italy), is to promote capacity building among key senior government officials involved in the process of policy making, in order to foster a sustainable approach on the key issues of development.
Seminar Series: Partnerships for Sustainable Development - Sustainable Public Policies and Business Practices for Black Sea Countries In 2008 a new advanced training course took place at VIU: the Seminar Series: Partnerships for Sustainable Development - Sustainable Public Policies and Business Practices for Black Sea Countries. The participants attended the first part in Istanbul (June 15-24, 2008) and the second in Venice, at VIU (September 28 – October 8, 2008). Each session scheduled a common session and then two thematic ones devoted to Climate Change and to Sustainable Management of Natural Resources. Course on Local Sustainability and Action The Course on Local Sustainability and Action was organised by Venice International University (VIU) in collaboration with Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe (REC), Agroinnova and ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability. This Course took place at the Venice International University from November 2 to 9, 2008 as the evolution of the previous Course for Sustainability: Strategies, Methodologies, Policies and Actions for Central and Eastern Europe which had been carried out until 2007. The 35 participants came from several different countries: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, FYR Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and the new EU member states Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary. Moreover; a few participants from Central Asian countries (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan) were also included. The agenda of the Course was structured with the aim of underlining best practices and concrete case studies, so that the practical aspects of Sustainability could be discussed among lecturers, experts and participants. After a common session of two days, thematic sessions followed. These faced three important themes such as: Sustainable City, Climate and Energy in a Sustainable City, and Enforcement and Assessments for Sustainability.
