Antonia Pasqua Recchia is Secretary General of the Italian Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities.  She joined the Ministry in 1985 as Director and Coordinating Architect for actions implemented following the 1980 earthquake in southern Italy, and during her long and prestigious career in the Ministry she has played a key role in management and innovation, continuously pursuing the goal of modernizing the organizational structure, introducing innovative models, ICT and through digitalization projects applied to cultural heritage.

From 1993 until 1999 she was responsible for General and Administrative Affairs while contributing also to environment and landscape protection projects. From 2000 until 2004 she was responsible for archaeological heritage documentation and promotion. From 2004 until 2011 she played a key role in many areas of management, innovation, conservation and promotion of cultural heritage, as Director General for Technological Innovation and Promotion (up to 2007), as Director General for the Archives (until 2008), as Director General for Innovation, Budget and Personnel (until 2010), and as Director General Landscape, Fine Arts, Contemporary Architecture and Arts (until 2011).

 

She is coordinator of a European common research program in the field of Cultural Heritage implemented by 18 member states and represents the Ministry in the National “Research and Competitiveness” Program. She is a member of several Ministerial committees and commissions including the Italy-China Intergovernmental Committee, and is Vice President of the Italian National UNESCO Commission.

 

Arch. Recchia is author of over 100 publications in the field of history of architecture, restoration, economy of culture, geographic information systems and ICT applied to cultural heritage, landscape and conservation. She has taught at “La Sapienza” University and Camerino University, including courses on Economic evaluation of investments in the field of cultural heritage, Landscape Architecture, Economy and Management of Cultural Heritage.
