The 2012 edition of the Course for Sustainability was titled "Living Laboratories: Resilience and Sustainability of Municipalities" and it was designed as a unique module of 10 days.
As the previous Courses for Sustainability, it was developed jointly by Thematic Environmental Network Center (TEN Center - VIU), the Regional Environmental Center (REC) and Agroinnova with the support of the Italian Ministry for the Environment, Land and Sea.
The programme was designed to prepare local communities to be resilient in the face of crisis. The idea is to enable discussions, within a "living lab", on how to improve the endurance, flexibility and adaptive capacity of communities and to assist them in implementing concrete actions to achieve this goal. The Course aimed at underlining best practices and sharing concrete case studies of resilience, so that practical aspects can be discussed among lecturers, experts and participants.
The Course was addresses to 27 participants from Albania, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Hungary, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Serbia, Poland and Turkey engaged in the introduction of various aspects of sustainability into policy making and implementation; in particular civil servants of local government bodies, experts from other organizations operating at a local level as well as representatives of non-governmental organisations.
