The role of documentary and fiction films in the cultural and political contentions in the region

Human rights issues come to the fore as mainland China tightens its grip on Hong Kong, and documentary and fiction films play an increasing role in the cultural and political contentions.

 

Following the presentation in Copenhagen in cooperation with Danish Film Institute on 27 October, the cinema programme on human rights lands in Venice, hosted on San Servolo island.
A welcome opportunity to develop international cooperation in the area of cinema and human rights, to present a highly topical and interesting programme in Venice with the participation of a panel of experts and  researchers in the human rights field. The filmmaker Evans Chan will also participate through remote call to present his documentary film.

A collection of five short stories by five of Hong Kong’s young directors who are raising
questions about the most central issues concerning their city: “If we can’t even see the storms in our future, how can we talk about hope? How can we find courage to change?”
