S1009 Social and Cultural Issues in Urban Planning in the 21st Century

This course introduces some of the major themes in critical social and cultural geography and urban planning in the 21st Century. After a short introduction of traditional and critical social and cultural terms in geography and urban planning, the course will focus some key issues in social and cultural geography and urban planning today such as: individual-society-space relations; nature-culture-environment; global and local ; imagined and real; city and city life; globalization and the city, the epistemological development of urban planning in the Modern period (mid 19th century- today, key factors influencing the development of the planning knowledge in the modern era especially in the 21st century.
