F0508 European Cultural, Social and Political Philosophy between 800 and 1800

This course will give a survey over the development of cultural, social and political philosophy from the end of the Roman Empire (476) to the end of the ‚Holy Roman Empire\' (1806). The intention is not only to present the most important cultural, social and political ideas in a nutshell, but also to present these ideas against the background of the main historical events of this period. The course will consist of short lectures by the professor, followed by discussions about the contents of the lectures. The students might be expected to prepare further explanations and papers about outstanding events or ideas of the discussed periods.
