Winter School: Patterns of vegetation in water controlled ecosystems

Applications are open for the Winter School on climate change and eco hydrological equilibra, organized by University of Padova in collaboration with Venice International University:

Patterns of vegetation in water controlled ecosystems
hosted on San Servolo island, Venice

from January 3 to 9, 2016.

During this intense course, expert international researchers in various though complementary disciplines will hold lectures and organize study groups to cope with the main issues linked to land use change and natural resources commercialization:
monitoring the most fragile ecosystems, such as the wide arid and semi-arid areas of the Earth, and observing vegetation growth and persistance even in water scarcity conditions may help in critically reflecting on models for vegetation patterns and possible applications for sustainable water management.

The course will particularly focus on experimental and stability analysis, as well as biological and mathematical modelling of ecosystems, and advanced technologies in  satellite images and data processing.

Participation is free for the selected candidates:
50 places are available to young researchers and PhD from any university and various disciplines: ecology, hydrology, geography, soil science, biology, environmental science and engineering.

The course is held in English language and participants should possibly have previous knowledge in mathematical biology, hydrological science, statistics.

The detailed programme can be downloaded here (latest update 13/07/2015)
