VIU Summer Schools 2015 - Applications open

During the Summer term, VIU organizes and hosts a series of summer schools in cooperation with the member institutions. Workshops, held by world-renowned academics in the unique setting of VIU’s campus on the island of San Servolo, engage students of various levels (undergrad, master’s, PhD, post-doc) on specific themes of common and strategic interest for the members of VIU consortium, such as sustainable development, and preservation of cultural heritage.

Visualizing Venice: The Biennale and the City, Digital Visualization Workshop - 4th edition

1-12 June 2015
Deadline for application: extended to April 15, 2015

 

This year’s workshop brings together art and architectural history scholars with digital media specialists and engineers in order to create new opportunities to research and share information about the built past: participants will explore the history of the Venice Biennale from several perspectives and scales of reference, ranging from architectural history and exhibition and artistic networks, to urban and social impacts on the city of Venice itself.

Environmental Management in a Changing World: Coping with Sea Level Rise

The Nicholas School of the Environment (Duke University) and Venice International University offer the second edition of a Summer Program: the workshop proposed provides, through a broad social, economic and environmental perspective, training in key topics about the impact of sea level rise on coastal areas and cities, and about adaptation and mitigation strategies.
Participants will learn, in class and in the lab, the use of operational tools for coastal zone monitoring and management, and will participate in four field campaigns aimed at exploring the most up-to-date techniques for coastal defense and protection. The Venice Lagoon will be used as a "laboratory", the ideal setup to study the intertwined dynamics of human and natural systems.
