VIU on the move. Cultural Heritage research in China.

Anna Olivotto, a Master’s student in Architecture and Conservation Sciences at Università IUAV di Venezia, participated in the VIU Globalization Program in Fall 2011 and was awarded a scholarship to carry out research in China at WHITRAP in Shanghai (World Heritage Institute of Training and Research for the Asia and the Pacific region) on cultural heritage conservation techniques after earthquakes.
This is what Anna said about her experience:

“Thanks to VIU I had the chance to take an internship at WHITRAP Shanghai for three months. During this period, I worked as project assistant for a team of experts in the conservation of cultural heritage in Asia. Due to my role, I had the chance to participate in many conferences organized by UNESCO, ICCROM and ICOMOS throughout China aimed at training professionals in the field of cultural heritage conservation. One of the meetings I joined was organized in the city which is the case study of my thesis: Lijiang, on the Birmanian border. This gave me the extraordinary opportunity to develop my knowledge of the site and to examine first-hand the restoration and conservation activities already put in place.

“The internship experience was particularly valuable because it gave me the chance to challenge myself both from an academic point of view and from a personal one and this would not have been possible without the constant support and availability of VIU.  I would recommend to all Iuav students to take this chance”.
