Summer School on Sustainable Waste Management: “Sustainable Landfilling and Final Sink”

The first edition of the Summer School on Sustainable Waste Management will be held at VIU from July 11 to 20, 2014. The Summer School is organized by Venice International University in collaboration with the International Waste Working Group (IWWG) as a follow up of the workshop on Sustainable Waste Management for Eco-Cities and Rural Areas that took place at VIU in October 2013.

The course is addressed to Master students who have completed all their required course work, PhD students, Post-Doctoral scholars and young researchers with an interest in waste management. Applicants familiar with these subjects and already working in private companies or public administrations are welcome.

The Summer School focuses on Sustainable Landfilling and Final Sink and aims to give an overview of the most recent and advanced technologies developed for the management of sustainable landfills. Activities linked to this broad topic range from the setup of a landfill, to its operational management to the aftercare and remediation of the site.

The course will comprise lectures by international waste management experts, a project work and research presentations. Participants will be able to analyze the management of an existing landfill during a full day site visit. By putting into practice the knowledge they acquire during the class lectures, they will prepare and present a project or research hypothesis on how to improve the management of a landfill.

Deadline for registration: April 15, 2014. More information
