Spring 2014 Opening Ceremony

On 20 February the Spring 2014 semester was inaugurated by VIU President, Ambassador Umberto Vattani and VIU Dean, Prof. Agar Brugiavini, who welcomed the many students, professors and guests who enjoyed a fascinating Lectio Magistralis entitled Earth’s Climate: past, present … and future, delivered by Prof. Carlo Barbante, Director of the CNR Institute for the Dynamics of Environmental Processes.

In welcoming the students, Dean Brugiavini noted that 22 nationalities are represented in the student body this semester. It is this diversity and multiculturality, together with the interdisciplinary background of both the students and the professors teaching in the program, that make studying at VIU such a unique experience.

Students can choose from a range of courses focusing on Italy, Cultures of the World and Global Challenges, in particular issues related to environmental management and sustainable development. Venice and its lagoon, with their extraordinary cultural and environmental heritage, are an exceptional backdrop for the program, providing many opportunities for field trips and on site training.

The program continues until the end of May.
