Visualizing Venice workshop: scholarship opportunities

VIU is pleased to announce that there will be partial and full scholarships available for participation in the 2014 edition of the summer workshop, thanks to the generous contribution of the Gladys Krieble Delmas Foundation. The first application deadline is March 15, after which there will be rolling admissions until April 30, 2014.

The aim of the workshop is to train scholars in how new technologies can be integrated with the study of historical and material culture. The workshop will focus on a range of visualization tools that can be used in a wide variety of research areas, in particular modeling change over time in urban space and the production of maps and low-cost photogrammetry.

As in the previous editions of the workshop, 3D modeling, visualization, and mapping technologies will be taught through a topic relevant to relevant to Venice, providing the opportunities for site visits and on-site data acquisition. In 2014 the focus will be on Venice and its islands. The two previous editions examined Venice's historical cistern network, and the Venetian Ghetto.

The workshop, from June 3 to June 13, 2014, is jointly promoted by Duke University, Università Iuav di Venezia and Venice International University, and is open to Master's, Ph.D or Post Doctoral scholars in the Interpretive Humanities.
