Friday October 11 VIU celebrates the UN World Food Day with a half-day workshop involving academicians and stakeholders from FAO, the World Food Program, and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.


The workshop is held at VIU and organized in cooperation with Ca' Foscari University of Venice in the framework of the events organized for the FAO World Food Day. The workshop is aimed at introducing international students at VIU and Ca' Foscari to one of the key issues of globalisation and sustainable development: food safety and security with a special focus on their relationship with water.


The event will be dedicated to introductory lectures on the topic of food and water, moving from cultivation of crops, to their protection from pests, and to the presentation of case studies of international cooperation for development in the food sector. Biological, technological but also social and cultural aspects will be taken into consideration in the discussion, trying to actively involve the students.


The initiative is organised in collaboration with University Ca' Foscari, the Ca' Foscari International College and the network of Italian universities for Cooperation and Development of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, launched in 2008 by the Cooperation Division at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
