Discussant: Giorgio Gianighian, Professor of Architectural Restoration at the Faculty of Architecture, Università Iuav di Venezia, teaching "Training in Unesco World Heritage Sites" at VIU.
Melissa Conn will talk about the activities and organization of Save Venice Inc. and the challenges of preserving the city's artistic heritage, illustrating the current restoration of Paolo Veronese's decorative cycle in the Church of San Sebastiano.
The lecture will be in English and is open to the public. A reception will follow.
Michael Hardt, Literature Program, Duke University, teaching "Venice and Globalization" at VIU
René Gabri, Artist and Professor at the Faculty of Arts and Design, Università Iuav di Venezia
Michael Hardt and René Gabri will explore some of the connections between the Occupy Wall Street movement and other political struggles in 2011. The discussion will highlight commonalities and discontinuities among the contemporary movements around the world that protest against the rule of finance and demand directly democratic social relations.
Discussant: Francesca Coin, Department of Comparative Linguistic and Cultural Studies, Università Ca' Foscari Venezia.
The lecture will be in English and is open to the public.
The event will be followed by the Closing Ceremony of the Fall 2011 semester of the Globalization Program on Cultural Heritage. A reception will follow.
