The workshop focuses on photographic portraiture. The chosen subject, as shown by the title, is a clear reference to the social networking phenomenon, which has recently experienced an exponential proliferation. The intention is to reflect upon
the representation of ourselves: a representation which does not necessarily correspond to reality.
So, how do others see us?
Does their representation of us match reality?
With the aid of photography, the workshop participants are invited to represent "the other" (fellow students) in everyday life, in an investigation that will result in a series of portraits that describe the other and deepen each other's knowledge.
Each participant will create a short and consistent series of portraits of his/her fellow students.

The workshop is divided into 4 steps:
Day one. 05 November, 2009
Workshop presentation and seminar on photographic portraiture: "What is a portrait?".
The difference between the concept of mask, likeness and reality. Analysis of some landmarks in potrait photography: from masters like Diane Arbus, Edward Weston, August Sander, Brassaï, Nadar, Man Ray, Lewis Carroll to contemporary works by Araki Nobuyoshi in "Sentimental Journey", Tierney Gearon in "The Mother Project", Philip-Lorca di Corcia, Loretta Lux and few more.
Dealing with light: a brief overview
Day two. 20 November, 2009
Review of photographs produced so far.
We will be discussing together how to edit the photographs and the directions to be followed next.

Final edit
